A Celebration of Black Music: This annual event put on by the Music Department celebrates the musical contributions of black musicians and composers. This concert will feature the WWU Concert Choir, Dr. Richard Hodges, guest conductor – Ali Hodges, conductor and the Jazz Big Band, Kevin Woods, director. This concert will also feature other musical solos.

Performances by: Dr. Richard L. Hodges, WWU Concert Choir, Advanced Tenor Bass Chorale, Grant Donnellan, Judith Widrig, Dr. Mehrdad Gholami, Pat Nelson, Eli Schille-Hudson, Kevin Woods, WWU Jazz Combo I, and WWU Big Band I.

This very special Black History Month meeting of the QTPOC Affinity Space, which centers Queer and Trans People of color but is open to all, has a very special guest. Come learn from and talk with not only your peers but Dr. Bryson-Reilly a Black Feminist Studies professor in the department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. You'll get to hear about her field of study, her personal studies, and hear her answer questions like: 

1. How can Black Feminist studies and concepts be applied to other disciplines?
2. What is the importance of resistance, liberation, and subversion in Black feminism
3. Why should people care about Black feminism?
4. Who are some Black feminist figures that you have worked with and/or studied?

And ask your own!

Join us in AW 210 at 6pm on February 19th. This conversation brings together teacher leaders, community leaders, Indigenous leaders (Lummi Nation), student leaders, and school administrators to reimagine what transformative educational leadership can look like when it is rooted in justice, humanity, and collective responsibility. Dr. Cherry-Paul will explore what it means to lead for liberation in the current educational moment—one marked by intensifying attacks on racial equity work, widening opportunity gaps, and community demands for schools that affirm and protect all students. Grounded in her long-standing commitments to antiracist pedagogy, literacy, and community-engaged practice, she will offer frameworks, tools, and examples of leadership that disrupts inequitable systems while cultivating spaces where students, families, and educators thrive.
