Our Mission
The Ethnic Student Center strives to be anti-colonial and anti-racist in our endeavors by highlighting and supporting the voices, experiences, and academic ambitions of historically underrepresented BIPOC students. We are dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive environment where BIPOC students and allies can Affirm their identity, Build a sense of community, and Cultivate leadership (our “ABCs”).
Who We Are
The Ethnic Student Center is an organization within the department of Multicultural Student Services that works closely with other offices in the Centers to promote student success and wellbeing. We are the main support center for over 20 cultural clubs, and assist them in fostering a sense of community, strengthening their leadership skills, and navigating administrative/social systems.
The ESC is located within the Multicultural Center (MCC) which has a small library with a variety of books we lend out, multiple study spaces, a dance room (VU 735), free computer and printer access, and many crafting materials. The MCC also contains a kitchen that includes a fridge, oven, stove, two microwaves, toaster, and a kettle. On the same floor as the ESC is a quiet meditation room (VU 711) that can be used for prayer. Additionally, downstairs in the Black Student Coalition (VU 504) is a room that students can use for naps, prayer, or meditation as well.
The ESC is open to ALL students regardless of cultural background or identity.
