A letter from the BRC
Greetings WWU community and prospective students,
Now more than ever, the Blue Resource Center affirms our commitment to undocumented students and students from mixed-status families. We acknowledge this is a challenging time to navigate, but we will continue to show up for you because we deeply care about your holistic wellness and lifelong success. At the Blue Resource Center, we support, celebrate, and advocate for and with students regardless of immigration status.
Like the monarch butterfly, people migrate in search of safer habitats. The symbol of the butterfly reminds us of the right of all beings to move freely and that nature has no borders. We honor undocumented people for their courage, sacrifices, and valuable contributions, seen and unseen, to our communities including here at Western. The Blue Resource Center exists because of the dedicated efforts of the Blue Group. Founded in 2015, members began organizing years prior to ensure undocumented students had a voice, a safe community where they belong, and a network of allies ready to support them. We sincerely thank Blue Group members, past and present, for continuing this legacy and transforming the undocumented student experience.
We welcome you to be in community with us at the Blue Resource Center whether you are undocumented, DACAmented, part of a mixed-status family, or an ally. Join our network of students, staff, faculty, and community members dedicated to advocating for and supporting undocumented and mixed-status communities. Our peer resource navigators and professional staff are here to support you.
Sending care,
Blue Resource Center
“Western Washington University embraces undocumented students as valued members of our community. We strive to serve undocumented students with resources and services which support their academic and co-curricular success. We recognize the challenges and barriers they have overcome to pursue university education, and we look forward to celebrating their successes at Western.”
